Recognition Award Program

People on our campus and in our communities are amazingly committed to the DCTC mission: Education for Employment. Each year the DCTC Recognition Awards Program gives you the opportunity to nominate your choices for an array of awards that honor people who have bettered society and our college through outstanding professional, philanthropic or volunteer accomplishments.

The Awards Committee, a subcommittee of the DCTC Institutional Advancement Steering Committee, assembles your nominations and administers the selection process for each award. The Awards Committee chairperson ensures that no conflicts of interest with subcommittee members occur during the evaluation process.

Award descriptions, eligibility criteria and nomination information are outlined below.

The DCTC Advocacy Award recognizes an individual or business that has displayed extraordinary support for the college mission through partnerships, community engagement and the promotion of technical education as a pivotal component in the quest for economic prosperity.

Eligibility Criteria: Candidates for the DCTC Advocacy Award must be an individual, organization, business or corporation who has displayed extraordinary support for the college mission; they should have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to DCTC through partnerships, community engagement, and the promotion of technical education for Minnesota's prosperity. Previous recipients of this award are not eligible for consideration.

Who Can Nominate: Nominations are open to the public.

Nomination Deadline: Nominations must be received by March 13, 2015.

The Spirit of DCTC Award recognizes an individual who has contributed selflessly to the college mission while showing boundless support for student success in the classroom and beyond.

Eligibility Criteria: Candidates for the Spirit of DCTC Award must be a current or former employee of Dakota County Technical College; he/she should have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to DCTC by promoting the college to the public; contributing to the college mission through time, talent and treasure; and demonstrating a positive attitude in support of student achievement. Previous recipients of this award are not eligible for consideration.

Who Can Nominate: Nominations are open to current or former employees of DCTC, students, alumni and Foundation or advisory board members.

Nomination Process: Nominations must be received by March 13, 2015.

Question #1: How has this individual promoted the college to the public? (e.g., community service, service clubs, church, volunteerism, etc.)

Question #2: How has this individual contributed selflessly to the college mission through time, talent or treasure? (e.g., board representative, advocacy, volunteerism, financial, classroom speaker, mentor, etc.)

Question #1: How did this individual demonstrate a positive attitude in support of student achievement while at DCTC?

The Outstanding Alumni Award recognizes an individual who has shown exceptional leadership, work ethic and dedication as a part of the DCTC community.

Eligibility Criteria: Candidates for the Outstanding Alumni Award must have earned a diploma or degree from Dakota County Technical College more than 10 years ago; he/she should have demonstrated a professional and/or personal achievement (e.g., career, obstacles overcome, etc.); service to others (e.g., community service, service clubs, church, volunteerism, etc.); support to Dakota County Technical College (board representative, advocacy, volunteerism, financial, employment of graduates, etc.). Previous recipients of this award are not eligible for consideration.

Question #1: How has this person shown growth, achievement and leadership in his or her personal and professional life since graduation? (e.g., career achievements, obstacles overcome, etc.)

Question #2: How has this person demonstrated commitment and service to others through contributions of time, talents or treasure? (e.g., community service, service clubs, church, volunteerism, etc.)

Question #1: How has this person shown his or her support of Dakota County Technical College since graduating? (e.g., board representative, volunteerism, financial, support/employment of graduates, etc.)

The Rising Star Award recognizes a young alumni who is making significant contributions to society through professional or philanthropic work.

Eligibility Criteria: Candidates for the Rising Star Award must have earned a diploma or degree from Dakota County Technical College within the past 10 years; he/she should have demonstrated a professional and/or personal achievement (e.g., career, obstacles overcome, etc.); service to others (e.g., community service, service clubs, church, volunteerism, etc.); support to Dakota County Technical College (board representative, advocacy, volunteerism, financial, etc.).

The Outstanding Instructor Award celebrates the importance of education and acknowledges two faculty members for their great work.

Eligibility Criteria: There will be two teachers of the year, one from a category that includes all instructors on unlimited contracts and the other from a category that includes all other instructors currently teaching six or more credits and having taught six or more credits during the past two semesters (spring and fall 2014).

Who Can Nominate: Handled internally by student vote followed by panel interview. Voting is open to students currently enrolled at Dakota County Technical College.

Voting Deadline: Voting closed on March 10, 2015.
