DCTC GREEN GALA A SUCCESS
April 26, 2006
ROSEMOUNT, Minn. -On April 8, 140 Dakota County Technical College students, alumni, guests, donors and sponsors gathered at the Rosemount Community Center for the Green Gala to help raise money to build a new greenhouse on the Dakota County Technical College campus.
Bobby Jensen of KARE 11's Outdoor Environments and local comedian Stevie Ray served as masters of ceremony for the evening's events, which included a buffet dinner, live and silent auction, a dance and a roast of the three DCTC Landscape and Horticulture instructors.
Dale Bachman, president of Bachman's, regaled the crowd with a humorous synopsis of instructor Ed Plasters career. Peter Moe, director of operations at the University of Minnesota Arboretum, entertained the crowd with stories about working with Plaster at the U of M Horticulture Research Center in the 1970s.
Current student Larry Mendel also provided a roast of Plaster, Jeff Kleinbohl and Matt Brooks, and alumna Karen Filloon, former TV and radio weather personality turned successful landscape designer, shared delightful stories of learning the craft of landscape design from Brooks.
The evening was a great success and the money raised will permit DCTC to initiate the process of constructing the new greenhouse. Special thanks go out to the students and graduates that put so much work into organizing the event, including DeAnne Rentrow, Nancy Thorman Dahl, Karen Filloon, Terri
Zachman and Carole Hlavay, and Linda Spiegel.
Fundraising for the greenhouse will continue until the project is completed. Brick pavers with inscription options that will be installed in a display wall in the greenhouse are available and other contributions can be made by contacting Janet Lekson in the DCTC Foundation office at 651-423-8249.
