This program prepares students to work in a variety of law-related fields. Specialized legal courses include Civil Procedures, Family Law and Criminal Law. Exposure to basic legal concepts is accomplished through courses in Transactional Law and Legal Editing & Proofreading. Students also take a variety of general administrative courses covering software applications, keyboarding and communications.
DCTC offers courses that prepare students for the Microsoft Certified Application Specialist (MCAS) certification exam. MCAS credential validates skills in using Microsoft Office 2010 meeting the demand for the most up-to-date skills on the latest Microsoft technologies.

According to ISEEK, Minnesota's career, education and job resource, employment for paralegals and legal assistants is expected to grow 15.5 percent in Minnesota by the year 2020. ISEEK: "There will be a need for about 1,170 new Paralegals and Legal Assistants to meet market demand between 2010-2020. This includes the demand due to replacement (workers leaving the occupation or retiring) as well as growth."
Graduates secure employment in entry-level positions such as judicial assistant, probate paralegal, legal assistant and real estate paralegal.

Business Professionals of America is the leading CTSO (Career Technical Student Organization) for students pursuing careers in accounting, business management, office administration, information technology and other related career fields.
Lions are an international network of 1.3 million people from over 200 countries who work together to answer the needs that challenge communities around the world. Students will be able to help determine the types of services the club will provide based on the needs of the campus and surrounding community.
SkillsUSA is a national non-profit organization for students in trade, industrial, technical, and health occupation programs in community and technical colleges. There are nearly 100 competitions through SkillsUSA that relate to programs of study at DCTC or leadership skills. Students who compete and take first place in Minnesota will advance to nationals.
