Health Care Technician

According to the U.S. DOL Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment for EMTs and paramedics is expected to grow by 33 percent from 2010 to 2020, much faster than the average for all occupations. Employment for medical assistants is expected to grow by 31 percent, also must faster than average. Cardiovascular (EKG) technologists and technicians show an increase of 29 percent—again much faster than average.

Health care job creation continues to dramatically outperform virtually every other occupational sector. Monster: "Indeed, health care is still a rare bright spot in a job market that can't get out of first gear. Jobs in health care rose to 14.19 million in October 2011 from 13.88 million a year earlier, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Hospital jobs increased by 84,000 over the period, but ambulatory services—physician offices, outpatient clinics and home health agencies—stole the show, adding more than 173,000 positions."

Forbes also touts the health care job market. Forbes: "According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the health care and social assistance industry will create some 28 percent of all the new jobs in the U.S. from 2010 to 2020, as extended longevity and an aging population push up demand for all kinds of health care professionals. That means 5.7 million new jobs in that period. Another compelling statistic: the BLS projects that health care wages and salaries will rise 27 percent through 2014."
