Brooks, Matt
Matt Brooks is a landscape horticulture instructor. He started teaching at DCTC in 1997.
Matt has a master's degree in landscape architecture from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. He earned his bachelor's degree in landscape architecture from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champagne in 1983.
His professional career includes employment with several Chicago-area landscape design firms. He obtained extensive experience in all aspects of the landscape industry, selling, designing, and managing commercial, institutional, and residential projects.
Under Matt's direction, DCTC landscape design students designed and installed gardens and landscape art during the 2006 "Secret Gardens" and 2007 "Art to A-Maze" design competitions at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum.
Matt's landscape projects have been featured in such prestigious magazines as Better Homes and Gardens and Northern Gardener.
Regarding his teaching philosophy, Matt believes in giving his students hands-on experience in the real world with an emphasis on creating environmentally appropriate and sustainable landscape designs.
The best part of his job as a DCTC instructor is watching students succeed in their pursuit of a career in landscape design. "I enjoy running into alumni at industry events and hearing their success stories," he says.
Matt's hobbies and interests include gardening, watercolor painting, camping, canoeing, skiing, travel, and outdoor activities in general.
