Eells, Joe
Joe Eells is a general education psychology instructor. He became a permanent faculty member at DCTC in 2001.
Joe has a master's degree in applied industrial/organizational psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Stout.
He has experience in law enforcement, corrections, social work, and as a small business owner.
In 2007, he won the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities Award for Excellence for his focus on student retention and academic self-efficacy.
"A competent teacher must listen, learn, and help the student gain the confidence to become a willing, lifelong learner," says Joe, regarding his teaching philosophy.
Helpful staff, administrators, faculty, and a high percentage of students with an objective to learn are the best part of Joe's job as a DCTC instructor.
His hobbies include wine and sausage making, and "once in a great while" a small batch of cheese. He enjoys training academic self-efficacy and studying the concept of the authoritarian personality.
"I used to be a sled-dog driver," Joe says. "I ran a small sled-dog tour business until my dogs and I became too mature to run up and down all of those hills."
