Kolles, Brett

Brett KollesBrett Kolles is an English instructor for both General Education and Office Careers at DCTC and the DCTC Lions Club advisor. Brett has a master's degree in English, a master's certificate in Business Communications, and a B.A. in Journalism from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN.

He has presented at several literary conferences including the Victorian Conference at Yale University, the Arts and Humanities Conference in Honolulu, Hawaii, the Victorian Conference in Richmond, Va., and the Humanities Conference at Northern Illinois University. He has also lectured at the Autism Society's annual conference on the topic of college students in the autism spectrum.

The winner of the University of St. Thomas Fellowship Award in 2005, Brett served as a contributing writer for the book, Management Lessons by Shakespeare, in June 2009 and published The Commoditization of Oscar Wilde in April 2010.

The best part of his job as a DCTC instructor is the atmosphere at the college, which he describes as "invigorating because we embrace fresh ideas, new technology, and creative pedagogical approaches to teaching."

"Students learn best when they are engaged," says Brett, regarding his teaching philosophy. "I try to marry fun and humor with academic rigor in the classroom."

Brett's hobbies include reading, writing, Victorian studies, downhill skiing, traveling, and racquetball.
