Otteson, Richard

Richard J. OttesonRichard J. Otteson is a heavy duty truck technology instructor. He began teaching at DCTC in 1981.

Richard has a Bachelor of Elective Studies degree from St. Cloud State University. He also earned a diploma in truck mechanics from St. Paul College, formerly known as St. Paul Technical Vocational Institute.

His industry experience is extensive. He worked for 16 years in truck shops with trucking fleets, truck dealerships, and independent repair shops, serving in middle management for approximately seven years.

A Journeyman Motor Truck and Tractor Mechanic registered with the state of Minnesota, Richard is also certified as an Automotive Service Excellence Master Heavy Truck Technician.

His teaching philosophy focuses on classroom and shop training to entry level skill levels.

Richard lists watching his program's graduates succeed and grow in the trucking business as the best part of his job as a DCTC instructor.

His hobbies and interests include motorcycles, old cars, fishing, and golf.
