International Students

International Students

DCTC is known for the openness and diversity on our campus. More than 20 different countries are represented in our student body.

Three Important Considerations for International Students

1. English Proficiency
  • Students from a country with English as the primary language should provide proof using a school transcript, passport, or letter of verification from an embassy or school official.
  • Students from a country with English as a secondary language must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) to determine English proficiency. TOEFL testing centers are located around the world.
2. International Admissions Requirements

Before DCTC can issue a Form I-20 with information supporting the issuance of a student visa to enter this country to attend our college, prospective international students must complete the following steps:

  • Complete DCTC International Student Application for Admission
  • Pay one-time, nonrefundable $20 application fee
  • Submit TOEFL scores
    • DCTC's TOEFL Institution Code is 7231
    • Technical programs require a minimum score of 500
    • English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) courses require a minimum score of 400
    • Students from Japan may use the STEP program instead of TOEFL
    • Technical programs require a Grade 2A
    • ESOL courses require Grade Pre-2
  • Provide copy of passport or certified copy of birth certificate
  • Provide official transcript translated into English on official letterhead
  • Provide an original affidavit of support documenting the ability to finance education
  • Provide three months of bank statements from sponsor
  • Provide documentation of immunization record, including:
    • Tetanus/diphtheria (Td) within last 10 years
    • Measles, mumps, rubella (MMR)
  • International college students interested in transferring to DCTC should contact World Education Services (WES) to obtain a course-by-course report. WES will also assist in the translation of international transcripts.
Application Deadlines:
    • Fall Semester - June 1
    • Spring Semester - November 1 from the previous year

3. Cost of Education
  • Because international students are not U.S. citizens, they do not qualify for financial aid through DCTC or the U.S. government.
  • International students may take the one-credit course "Sharing Your Culture" (INTS1040). Successfully completing the course makes international students eligible for a Resident Tuition Cultural Scholarship for subsequent semesters at DCTC.
  • Tuition is approximately $200 per credit.
  • DCTC does not have dormitories or apartments. International students are responsible for finding their own Housing.
  • Minimal public transportation is available for our Rosemount campus.
  • All international and visiting scholars engaged in educational activities are required to purchase the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities international student accident and illness insurance plan. The annual cost for this insurance is approximately $700.
