Welcome

Medical Assisting continues to be one of the fastest growing occupations.  Job prospects in the Twin Cities area are best for Medical Assistants who have graduated from an accredited program, particularly those with certification.

DCTC’s Medical Assistant Program is accredited by CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) on recommendation of the Medical Assisting Education Review Board (MAERB).

The medical assistant is a multi-skilled professional dedicated to assisting in patient care management.  This program prepares graduates to work primarily in a physicians’ office/clinic environment.  The graduate will assist the doctor with examinations, treatments, medical histories, diagnostic testing, instrument sterilization, minor surgery, and administering medication.

Laboratory duties may include specimen collection, routine lab testing like urinalysis and glucose, ECG, and X-ray. Duties may also include answering phones, scheduling, referrals, coding, and insurance.
