Food Drive

Project: Food collection and donation to the food shelves in Dakota County. The distribution of items was determined by the Community Action Council located in Rosemount.
Date: Planning began in September with collection and distribution in November 2005.
Students made posters, table tents, flyers and sent information and announcements via email and advertized on the campus monitors the event. Students visited classrooms. Students kept the other departments involved informed as to the progress of collections with emails.
Event: Three weeks in November. Appropriately labeled boxes were placed at the entrance areas to the main campus building. Students collected items donated from the boxes daily and transported them to the department.
Summary: It was a first time experience for some to volunteer. Initiative, leadership and communication skills within the class were evident as some students assumed the responsibility of visiting class rooms, writing emails and preparing table tents and flyers. 200 pounds of food were collected and transported to the Community Action Council office.
