CARs (Course Advising & Reservation Session)

Welcome to DCTC's Course Advising and Reservation Session (CARs). This is a session designed specifically for newly accepted students of Dakota County Technical College to assist them in beginning their educational and career journey.

Every student who has completed admissions and has been accepted into their major/program of study has been directed/invited to this site. You must know your Student ID number to log on and reserve your CARs.

The steps involved in reserving your CARs include:

1. Logging in
2. Selecting a date
3. Selecting how you would like to be reminded of your CARs
4. Confirmation

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it required?: Yes. Every student who has completed admissions and has been accepted into their major/program of study must attend CARs. Failure to attend could risk losing your spot in your program.
What does CARs cover and how long does it last?: Each CARs session will feature a large group presentation (40-60 students) giving you information on course schedules, tuition deadlines, adding and dropping classes, and other important enrollment information. Following the presentation, advisors will work with smaller groups (5-10 students) in selecting/designing their class schedules. CARs wraps up with students registering for their classes online and leaving with a printed schedule. CARs should only take an hour to an hour and a half.
How and when should I reserve my CARs?: Follow the steps beginning with the log in step and we will walk you through it. You will need to know your Student ID# to access the list of possible CARs. We recommend you reserve your CARs as soon as you receive your acceptance letter and select the earliest possible session. Classes fill up on a first-come, first-served basis, so reserving your CARs in a timely manner will give you a better chance getting the classes you want and need.
What if I cannot make any of the listed CARs?: We only list the most recent CARs and those that are scheduled in the next couple of months. Other CARs will be posted later and you are welcome to see if those dates and times work for you. Again, we recommend attending the earliest possible CARs to insure getting the classes you want.
Can I reserve more than one CARs?: No. You will only be allowed to select one CARs.
Can I change my CARs reservation?: Yes. Follow the same procedures you first utilized to reserve a session.
Is there a maximum number of students allowed for each CARs?: Yes. We have set a maximum number for each session based on the number of advisors available. This allows us to provide timely and effective customer service as we help student select and register for their classes.
Can I attend a CARs I have not reserved a spot for?: No! If you show up for a CARs that we are not prepared to have you at, you will be asked to return to the CARs you have a reservation for.
Will I receive a confirmation and a reminder of my CARs?: Yes. As soon as you have reserved your CARs, you will receive a confirmation of the date and time. You will also have the opportunity to select how you would like to receive a follow-up confirmation 7 days prior to your CARs.
What if I enter my Student ID# and my last name and nothing happens?: Double check to see if you entered your Student ID# correctly. Also double check to see if you entered your last name exactly how it is listed on the letter that came with your CARs information. If reentering your information does not work, contact the Office of Admissions at admissions@dctc.edu or 651.423.8020.
