Learning Center

The Learning Center provides coursework, tutoring and other services designed to assist students prepare for and succeed in technical and occupational training programs. Emphasizing the diverse skills, abilities and learning styles of individuals, ASC staff are available to prepare individualized plans and to provide a range of learning support services.

Location: Room 2-141.

The following types of assistance are available through the center:

  • study help
  • stress management
  • time management
  • test preparation
  • group study sessions
  • alternative learning adaptations
  • environmental modification
  • tutoring

Students who have received support services in high school or at another college are encouraged to contact the Learning Center in a timely manner to request services or to discuss possible accommodations. Students with disabilities will be asked to provide documentation to support their requests for accommodations.

Preparation for General Education Courses

Developmental courses do not count toward degree requirements. However, they do provide academic instruction that prepares students for transfer-level general education courses. Developmental course offerings include:

  • Communications
  • English Essentials
  • Basic English and Writing Review
  • Mathematics
  • Introduction to Algebra
  • Basic Mathematics

Preparation for Occupational and Technical Training Programs

Developmental level courses can also serve as preparation for entry into occupational and technical programs by allowing students to update and upgrade skills. Developmental course offerings include:

  • Communications
  • College Reading I, II
  • Medical Reading and Study Skills
  • Independent Study Options

Preparation for College Level Study Skills and Career Plans

Success in both general education and technical training programs can depend on the development of college level study skills. College success is often dependent upon identifying realistic and well-defined training and career plans. Developmental Courses which can be helpful include:

  • Medical Reading and Study Skills
  • Independent Study Options
