Student Loans

After you have received an official award letter from DCTC, you may apply for a Federal Stafford Student Loan. If you choose to apply for a Stafford Loan, you may apply online using your PIN by using the following link:

You must also complete Stafford Loan Entrance Counseling. You can complete this online by using the following link:

Apply for Additional Assistance if Necessary

If you require more financial assistance than appears on your award letter, you may be eligible to apply for other loans:

  • Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Loan
  • Federal Parental Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS)
  • Minnesota SELF Loan
  • Private Student Loans

Students may apply for a SELF Loan online.  Please keep in mind that in order to receive a SELF Loan, you must have a credit-worthy cosigner.  Your cosigner should be available to complete the cosigner portion of the online application.  You may complete the online application using the following link:

Or, contact the DCTC Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid for an application. 

Students may choose to supplement the loan amounts available through the Federal Stafford Loan Program with Private Student Loans. Several options are available to students in addition to the PLUS and SELF loans listed above. Dakota County Technical College has made a web site available to students for use in determining if a Private Student Loan is appropriate for your situation. Students who have received Stafford Student Loans and are no longer attending the college, must complete Stafford Loan Exit Counseling. You can complete this online by using the following link:
