DCTC's Writing Center offers fun, free, professional tutoring to all enrolled DCTC students. The Writing Center works with students at any stage of the writing process on any writing assignment or project at DCTC.


The Writing Center staff is committed to providing quality writing assistance and tutoring to students wishing to become confident, independent writers.

    ENGL 0114 This course focuses on reading skills widely recognized as essential for comprehending college-level material. Topics include pre-reading, reading, and post-reading strategies as well as critical thinking to improve comprehensions, increase vocabulary, and develop thoughtful responses to reading with additional emphasis on the close relationship fo reading, writing, and thinking.     ENGL 0123 This course is designed to help students who are in or planning to enter health care programs strengthen basic Reading Comprehension and vocabulary skills. Students will work on developing efficient study skills. Learning experiences will include use of excerpts from health care textbooks to practice skills. Prerequisites: None

    ENGL 0130 This is a basic writing course that introduces students to the primary principles of college composition and professional writing skills. The courses primary skill areas include organizational development, refined grammar and punctuation execution, proper paragraph development, short essay construction, proofreading skills, audience recognition, and rules for formatting.

  • Please schedule an appointment by email, phone, or by stopping into the Learning Center, room 2-141
  • Monday–Friday: 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. (closed from Noon - 12:30 p.m.)

NOTE: Appointments are with a tutor and small groups of fewer than five students. Appointments must be made no later than 30 minutes before closing times.
