Architectural Technology Graduate Glenn Hurd Receives 2007 Outstanding Alumni Award
May 15, 2007 -

ROSEMOUNT, Minn. - When Glenn Hurd received two job offers on the same day he graduated from DCTC's Architectural Technologies program in 1984, it was only the beginning of a path that would lead him not only to being a DCTC success story, but to being named the recipient of the 2007 Outstanding Alumni Award.
After completing his studies under DCTC faculty member Charles West, Hurd elected to continue his education at the University of Minnesota, where he obtained his Associate Arts degree and completed independent architectural design studies.
Hurd classifies his educational training as "Taliesin" = comprised of a mixture of "hands-on" technical studies received from DCTC, related studies received at the University of Minnesota, and real world mentoring with Minnesota-based architects prior to becoming registered in 1995.
Today, his education has left him with a long and impressive list of professional credits.
He served as managing principal of Minneapolis-based Leonard Parker Associates architecture firm, where he focused on convention center projects such as the Erie, Pennsylvania Convention Center and the expansion of the Minneapolis Convention Center, for which he served as the senior architect.
Hurd has also worked for Ellerbe Becket in Minneapolis, where his projects included the Kiel Hockey Arena in St. Louis, the LaSalle Plaza in downtown Minneapolis, and the skyway bridge connecting the Piper Jaffrey Tower and Lincoln Building in downtown Minneapolis.
In July 2003, Hurd relocated from Minnesota to Phoenix, Arizona to work with Leo A. Daly as a senior project manager for the Phoenix Convention Center Expansion and the renovation to the Phoenix Symphony Hall.
Today, Hurd is a senior project manager and associate of SmithGroup Architects and Engineers and is working as the project manager for the $100 million One Central Park East Project, which will be a 26-story office tower facility in downtown Phoenix.
Hurd is a member of the American Institute of Architects and is a LEED Accredited Professional. He currently resides in Scottsdale, Arizona, with his wife and three daughters.
He was formally recognized as the 2007 DCTC Outstanding Alumni Award winner at the DCTC commencement ceremony held May 11.
