Northwest Airlines Partners With DCTC to Develop New Leadership Development Program
September 4, 2007 -

ROSEMOUNT, Minn. - Northwest Airlines (NWA) and DCTC have attained a $263,945 grant from the Minnesota Job Skills Partnership (MJSP) to develop a training program that will provide NWA frontline employees with a common framework and skills from which to work.
To supplement the grant, NWA will provide $617,000 to support the two-year training project that is expected to provide instruction to more than 1,680 NWA managers, new managers, and union-represented supervisors.
The training program that DCTC is designing will include customized training modules and leadership development curriculum that will include principles and qualities of genuine leadership; addressing emotions at work; resolving conflicts; and correcting performance problems.
Additionally, a pre-supervisory development process will allow 65 current employees to develop the skills needed to progress from supervisor to manager, as well as provide training to 150-200 new managers that NWA plans to hire over the next year.

"This grant will allow NWA to strengthen their leadership abilities to prepare for new expectations and develop a better employee relations environment," said Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development Commissioner and MJSP Board Chair Dan McElroy. "In addition, DCTC will gain the capacity to provide higher-level management and skills training."
