DCTC offers programs that allow you to earn college credits for free while you are still in high school. As a qualifying high school student, you will be able to seamlessly transfer the credits you earn to nearly any college or university in Minnesota, as well as many others nationwide.
Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) is a program for motivated high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors to take classes at a college or university while in high school. In the PSEO program, high school students who meet qualifications will take classes at a college on campus or online. These classes will earn them dual credit at high school and college.
PSEO students can take one class through the program, or they can take all their courses through college. PSEO can be used to explore the college experience, try different technical classes to help decide on a future career, or complete a full associate degree or Certification program while in high school. PSEO is designed for the student to take charge of their education. At DCTC, PSEO students will work closely with their advisor to ensure their educational goals are being met, that they are successful in their classes, and to navigate the next steps after PSEO.
PSEO is at no cost to the high school student. All classes, textbooks, and fees will be covered. There may be instances with certain programs where students are expected to purchase non-consumable tools or materials which they will keep at the end of the semester. These tools and their cost are the responsibility of the student and are not covered in the PSEO program.
There is no transportation provided for PSEO students. Students in courses that require in-person attendance are responsible for their transportation to and from the college for courses. Low-Income families may qualify for Tuition Reimbursement through the Minnesota Department of Education. Please visit our Office of Basic Needs & Well-Being website to learn more about transportation options for DCTC students.
Students with an IEP or 504 are encouraged to meet with Accessibility Services to learn what accommodations they are eligible for. Please note that accommodations at DCTC may not be the same as those offered at a student's High School.
PSEO students can take any courses that they meet pre-requisites for and that are not held for a specific program. There are a variety of general education and technical courses that students are eligible to take. PSEO students will meet with an advisor each semester to register for courses. Students are also encouraged to work with their High School counselor to explore options.
PSEO students are held to the same academic standards as all other DCTC students. Students are expected to maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP), which is made up of a students GPA and their Completion Percentage. DCTC expects students to maintain a GPA of 2.0 (C's or better) and 67% Completion Percentage (earning credit for at least two-thirds of attempted credits).
The institution a student transfers to determines how coursework counts towards completion of the student's degree. If you are interested in transferring to another college or university, please work with the PSEO advisor to assist you to transfer your courses to the receiving college.
New PSEO students can register for courses after completing the required online orientation. Returning students can register after their semesterly paperwork is complete and open enrollment has begun.
